Hair Extensions - the good, the bad and the ugly!

Individual strand and hair weft are the most common type of extensions being used today. The individual strand method involves taking small amounts (maybe 20-50 strands) of extension hair and applying it to small sections of your own hair, either weaving it in, heat fusion, gluing, clamping with small metal rods or using waxes and polymers. All of these methods except for the clamping involve coating your own hair with a chemical or foreign substance.

The extensions usually only last a few months before they have to be taken out and completely redone. The main problem with this method is taking the hair extensions out without damaging your own hair. The removal process is done using solvent type chemicals to dissolve the glue. There is almost always unrepairable damage done to the hair. Even with the clamp method the hair is grealy damaged and the amount of breakage is extensive.

Hair extensions are not for the person who has fine, fragile, thinning hair. They can cause traction baldness, or balding in spots. If you have fine thin hair, consider taking Biotin. This is a diet supplement that stimulates hair growth. Also try Nioxin hair treatment. This patented formula stops hair from thinning and stimulates new hair growth. A person with a medium texture hair or thicker can achieve extensions without too much damge. This type of hair is naturally stronger and has more elasticity.
